WHY WE'RE SPECIAL
Eyewear has the ability to transform the wearer. Matching frames to faces is the remit of every Optician, but not many have the artful instinct for the task that is needed. It requires the ability to understand the person, educate, dream a little, & conjure the outcome. This is done through listening, imagining & empowering you to make confident decisions in order to achieve amazing eyewear outcomes. I have over 20 years experience in offering advice about eyewear, prescriptions, & recommending lens solutions. I also like to help diagnose issues with existing eyewear & discuss potential solutions to any problems you may have.
SECRET OPTICS BIO
I began working in optics by chance, in London, in my 20's.
While there I was given a glimpse through the keyhole of the global optical industry. I returned home having soaked up all that I could.
I schooled up as a Dispensing Optician
& opened my first practice in Tauranga in 2005.
2020 was time for a new thing; all that I have learned, distilled down
into an Optician's nook in the Republic of 9th Avenue.
Version 1 of the store was based in an original stucco cottage.
The new 2026 store now resides just down the street in a repurposed mechanics' workshop. Stripping back the decades reveals the humble beauty of the original building. Adding things found, stored & reworked, what remains is a cosy space from which I can help you express yourself through your eyewear.

Carl Zeiss Lens Lab in New Zealand. This allows me to offer the best digital cutting-edge custom lens technology available on the planet.
We can fit any of the lens requirements you may have as per the list below.

Remember, your prescription is yours to do with what you wish.
If you wish to discuss lenses with us simply email your Optometrist & request a copy of your most recent spectacle prescription.
- or we can assist you to source a copy.
(It is possible to read your prescription from your existing lenses in store - but in most cases a copy of your Spec Rx is required for best outcomes.)
